ASSESSMENT
Session 2006-2007

The overall mark for your course is based on a 50/50 combination of Class Work and Examination. The course work element of the assessment consists of marks for four pieces of written work and a tutorial assessment mark. The tutorial assessment mark awarded by your tutor is based on your performance in work for the tutorial.

Marks for Class Work are:

Essay 1
/100
10%
Essay 2
/100
10%
Essay 3
/100
10%
Essay 4
/100

Tutorial Assessment

500
= 50%

A classwork mark is produced from an average of the five marks above and will count as 50% of the year's final aggregate mark.

Marks for Degree Examinations:

First Semester Degree Exam
25%
Second Semester Degree Exam
25%

= 50%

An examination mark is calculated from the average of the two marks awarded in the degree exams and will count as 50% of the year's final aggregate mark.

The final mark for the course is then an average of the classwork mark and the examination mark.

The pass mark for the year is 40. This must include a pass in the overall mark for the degree examinations (i.e. the average of the marks for the Semester 1 degree exam and the Semester 2 degree exam).

An overall end-of-year mark of not more than 39 will be returned for any student who has failed, without good reason, to complete any of the prescribed written assignments. Make sure all written work is submitted, even if it will be graded at zero because of lateness.

If you do not complete and submit all four essays, AND obtain at least 40% overall in the degree exams, you cannot pass the course, however high your marks in the other essays, exams and tutorial assessment.
